LOST IN ORBIT
When astronaut Michael loses radio contact on the Moon’s far side, isolation settles in, pushing him into a lunar dream where loneliness reshapes reality and where everyday objects become unexpected companions.
THE MUSIC
Lost In Orbit is inspired by the original song 'Michael in Orbit' by Yukon-based musician Dalton Alexander.
The film is entirely driven by the music: suspenseful, metaphysical, and emotionally immersive. With no dialogue, the narrative remains universally accessible, unfolding as an interior journey synchronized to the song’s structure and mood.
VISUAL & ARTISTIC APPROACH:
The film unfolds in a handcrafted universe:
- Moon, Earth, spacecraft, and sets built from cardboard and papier-mâché
- Costumes and props designed with the same tactile, handmade aesthetic
- Hybrid animation approach combining miniature (photo - film - 3Dscans) + live actors/ elements (greenscreen, keying, compositing, layering)
This physical, imperfect materiality brings warmth and intimacy to the vastness of space — making the cosmos feel strangely domestic and alive.
SYNOPSIS
Orbiting the Moon alone in the command module, astronaut Michael slips from sunlight into darkness. As the signal crackles and dies, isolation takes hold and sleep overtakes him.
He wakes on the lunar surface without a helmet—breathing normally—stunned by this impossible new world. Drawn to a strange structure in the horizon, Michael discovers ruins of an abandoned control room, echoing distant activity on Earth. Nearby lies an old, abandoned helmet.
Boredom turns to unease as he realizes he is completely alone.
Wandering across an endless, repetitive landscape, he finally reaches a silent monolith and dares to touch it. The helmet transforms and becomes a true companion.
Together, they invent small rituals of joy: flying bikes, improvised games, planting flowers, sharing a picnic. In this fragile routine, loneliness becomes bearable. A dream where space slowly begins to feel like home.

The film connects through a universal emotional hook: what isolation does to the mind when the signal disappears.
